Lately I have been trying to better organize my life.
I finally bought an agenda I can carry around in my handbag, to replace the tattered calendar in the junk drawer. Now that my to-do lists share space with my appointments, I am finding things actually get done.
I re-positioned the kids’ car seats so all three are sitting in the second row, rather than spread out across two rows. This means that I can:
a)reach all three of them easily if I need to pass them something
b)fasten their seat belts without having to get out of the car
c)vacuum out the crumbs and mop up spills from a small strip of floor instead of the whole car
d)Actually use my trunk! (=boot to you english speakers out there).
I am very jazzed by this. Funny how such a small change can make such a difference.
I started cleaning out the kids’ closets. Things have traditionally been in boxes but when you are in a hurry to tidy up you (read “I”) tend to just throw things back into any old box. This week I have been slowly sifting through all the little bits of plastic and trying to throw like in with like. Next step will be to teach the Girl not to dump the contents out in enormous piles on the floor.
And I have been preparing snacks in advance. I am trying to avoid the “Oh sh*t what do I give them they’re yelling oh good here’s a box of cookies” approach. Above is a photo of our Friday “Orange and Yellow” snack. See the plastic wrap? Proof! Prepared in advance!
I may yet make Super-Mom status. Next, if I am not careful, I will be wearing aprons and greeting my husband at the door with his slippers and the newspaper...
